Getting Started
Link a Canvas course, add what Canvas can’t see, generate, and push the groups back. The app’s own sidebar runs in the same order.
-
Step 1
Link a Canvas course
A class is a Canvas course. Pick it once and the roster arrives — additions and name changes keep syncing on their own.
-
Step 2
Add what Canvas can’t see
Grades come in automatically. On top of them, rate students on trait sliders — bold ↔ meek, diligent ↔ slacking — a whole class in about a minute.
-
Step 3
Generate and adjust
Set the group size, add keep-together and keep-apart pairs, and generate. Drag a student between cards and the balance scores update.
-
Step 4
Push back to Canvas
Review the exact plan — including how many students Canvas will email — then publish it as a Canvas group set. Nothing is written without your confirmation.
What it deliberately won’t do
Each of these is a decision, not a missing feature.
No typing students in by hand
Canvas is the system of record for the roster, so there is exactly one source of truth — which is what makes the group write-back trustworthy. Add a student in Canvas and they appear here.
No silent deletes
Roster sync arrives as a diff you confirm: additions, renames and dropped-student flags, shown before anything changes. Students are matched on their Canvas id, never on their name.
No survey required
Your own read on your students is the primary data source. A slacker asked “do you work hard?” always says yes, so self-report can’t carry the signal.
Nothing written without confirmation
The push screen renders the exact plan — every group, every membership change, and the number of students Canvas will email — and waits.
See it on your own roster.
Setup starts with your district’s Canvas developer key. We’ll walk you through what that involves.
